Bridge Creek - McAlester Pass to Stehekin. You can approach this area from the north (State Route 20), the east (Twisp River Road) or the south (Stehekin). Game hunted outside the park cannot be transported through the park. Next we started the 2200' climb to High Camp on top of McAlester Pass. McAlester Lake/Creek Trail This trail begins at 6500′ McAlester Pass, a beautiful area for wildflowers in midsummer, and joins the Pacific Crest Trail in 5.5 miles at Bridge Creek. High Camp is located at the north end of McAlester Pass, a broad swath of meadows with some boggy areas in early season. The lake had LOTS of trout rising. You told us about the huge bleeding welts you had from the flies at Thunder Basin. After the water dries up in the meadows, the closest stream is about 0.5 miles (0.8 km) toward the lake or Hidden Meadows. Then it is 7.9 miles (12.7 km) with a steep elevation gain to McAlester Pass. Deer, and sometimes black bear, may be seen in meadows. Drive State Route 20 to mile 159, just over one mile (1.9 km) east of Rainy Pass. Try to spot the Lyall Glacier as you walk by. Although not as popular as some of its brethren as a day hike, it makes an excellent day ride for stock parties, and a mellow day hike. I love Park Creek Pass and have visited from both sides: a dayhike from a low camp on the upper Stehekin Road, and last year I backpacked up Thunder Creek from it's trailhead. The PCT from Bridge Creek is all down hill.
