I really enjoyed how Bill Bryson, better than most scientists themselves, can put things into language that speaks to real people. He travelled lot to rectify and understand concepts behind science and everything around us. I am an avid reader of science and other non-fiction books and I would place this one at or very near the top. A Short History of Nearly Everything is Bill Bryson's fascinating and humorous quest to understand everything that has happened from the Big Bang to the rise of civilization. How do we know what is in the centre of the Earth, or what a black hole is, or where the continents were 600 million years ago? I'm used to reading about the sciences in single topics. Imagine, an explanation of the smallest known (or theorized) particles in the universe to the expanse of the universe itself. To accompany the author as he travels with the likes of Charles Darwin on the Beagle, Albert Einstein or Isaac Newton is a trip worth taking.' This book surprised me in the amount of effort the author took to go through book after book of different sciences, both old and new, and proceeded to connect the dots into several cohesive stories about our home, planet Earth, and its residents.
